About Us
Welcome to the ZKI-Spring Conference 2026 in Göttingen – We are delighted that you are here and interested in our venue.
The conference is organized by the GWDG, the joint computing and IT competence center of the University of Göttingen and the Max Planck Society. For many years, we have been developing and maintaining central IT services for research, teaching, and administration in Göttingen and beyond.
These include, among other things:
- modern high-performance computers,
- reliable storage and cloud systems
- as well as the scientific data network GĂ–NET, which connects numerous institutions in the region.
As a partner to science, we support research projects from the initial idea to data-intensive evaluation. In addition to operating IT infrastructures, we are involved in training and continuing education, advise research groups, and conduct our own research in the field of applied computer science—particularly in the areas of high-performance computing, AI infrastructure, and digital research environments—and are involved in numerous research projects at the national and international level.
Together with the University of Göttingen, we are one of nine computer centers in the National High Performance Computing (NHR) network and one of four national AI service centers. We are also a service operator for the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI).
Our location
Since 2021, we have been located in the new Göttingen Data Center on the North Campus. The building is a joint infrastructure project of the University, University Medical Center, and Max Planck Society. It offers:
- state-of-the-art HPC and cloud resources,
- powerful network and communications infrastructure, and
- future-proof computing and data rooms for coming generations of researchers.
We look forward to welcoming you here for the spring conference – at a place where research, development, computing, and collaboration take place every day to create something new.
Fancy a piece of history?
Over more than five decades, the GWDG has developed from a classic computer center into a versatile IT competence center for science.
